Southbourne Lake

The lake was man-made during 1986 by East Sussex County Council as part of the Eastbourne Park plan. The maximum depth is about 9 feet at the east end, between the pole edged area and the island, while the west end of the lake is about 6 feet deep with a shelving shore. The south side of the acre lake is not accessible to the public or anglers, as we must retain some of the lake-side as conservation for the wildlife and this area has been extensively planted with trees.

Fish Stocks

The lake has been extensively stocked with mirror carp; large specimens were introduced a few years ago and should be a good catch, while smaller mirrors were bought-in during the winter 93/94. Other fish in abundance are perch, roach and bream. There are a few rudd, tench and, of course, pike which came into the lake when it was allowed to fill with water from the Lottbridge river, some of which are quite large by now.

The largest recorded and witnessed catch so far is a 30lb 8oz Mirror Carp caught on Maple 8 Boilies, May 2004.
